May 2019 Newsletter

Greetings all,

Well here we are at the beginning of a new month. Let’s hope that the weather starts to cooperate and begins to warm up. Watching the news it certainly has been a terrible spring for the folks to the north of us and to the east. Every night there are more and more reports of flooding and the millions of dollars lost in property damage. With the prediction of rain for the rest of the week it looks like they are in for another battle with mother nature. Hopefully after this week conditions will improve for these areas.

The City of Kawartha Lakes will be undertaking a reconstruction project on Peel Street between Victoria Avenue North and William Street North. As well, there will also be work done on Russell Street West between Victoria Avenue South and Lindsay Street South. The scope of this project is to install new underground infrastructure (storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and water main), new sidewalks, curbs and finally construct new roadway. This project has an anticipated completion date of November 1st, 2019. If you come down to the club during the summer you may experience some delays and limited access. They will be attempting to keep the disruptions to a minimum but at times it may be unavoidable. We have a few rentals this summer and I have contacted them to make sure that they are aware of the construction that is taking place.

Let me remind you that you can register early for next season. We have gotten a few registrations already and you can still register and be eligible for the draw to win back your registration fees. To be entered in the draw, registrations forms and payment must be received on or before June 1st. The draw to win back your registration fee will be made at the AGM in June. Click for Early Bird Registration Form

Please note that the AGM normally is the third week in June. We have found that this date has always been a challenge for the accounting firm to have the Financial Statements prepared in time for our meeting. Therefore, this year the Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 25th at 7:00 pm. If you are unable to attend the AGM and would like to fill out the Proxy (A Proxy Form will be attached in next month's newsletter) just drop the completed form off at the LCC office and it will be passed on to President, John McCrae, to act on your behalf. Reports will be given by our treasurer Emma Ireland as well as individuals representing the various sections and any new business will be dealt with at this time. Hope to see you at the meeting.

At a recent Board meeting we discussed if we wanted to carry on with the club wide Toonie Draw. Everyone agreed that we would continue again next year. It was suggested that some people may want to prepay their money for the toonie draw and be assured that their name is always entered each week. You will see on the registration form that there is an option to pay $36.00 ($2.00/week for 18 weeks) up front. A list of names will be created of those who prepaid and will be entered each week automatically. It is still a voluntary draw and not mandatory. You do not have to prepay to be entered into the draw; the toonie bin will still be put out each day of curling and you can sign in as you did this past year. The draw will take place on Monday morning for the previous week of the entire curling season. If there is a winner than that individual will receive half of what was collected for that week. If there isn’t a winner that portion will be carried over to the next week and the pot grows.

The Executive Board of Lindsay Curling Club is looking for two individuals who are interested in sitting on the Board. Positions on the Board are usually a minimum of 2 years. You will need to attend monthly meetings as well as the AGM, usually booked towards the end of June.

The Board is looking for a Director of Marketing and a Director Membership. Below are the position duties, but they are not limited to these.

If you are interested in either of these positions please submit your name to Wendy Findlay or if you have any questions you can either call or text me @ 705-341-0244 or email me @ wendy.findlay@flemingcollege.ca
