September 2016 Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

Where has the summer gone??? Did you see the registration advertisement in the paper??? Watch for another ad in the paper today!!! Thanks goes out to Cathy Mullins for preparing the ads and getting them put into the paper. Listen to BOB FM (CKLY FM) they will also be announcing and reminding everyone that registration will take place in just 7 days! Yikes!!!

Registration will take place at the club on Wednesday, September 7th from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. We will be having a BBQ as usual, so come on down and enjoy a burger, register and catch up with members you may not have seen since curling ended back in March. Click here where you will find the new registration form with the 2016/17 rates. Please feel free to print a copy of the form and drop off your completed form and payment to the club office or on registration night. We are always looking for new members so talk to co-workers, neighbours, friends and relatives and bring them down to the club and get them signed up in one or more of the various leagues we offer.

Again this year, is an introductory rate for new curlers of $200.00 for an unlimited membership. What a deal!!!! Curl as often as you like for only $200.00. We are also hoping to expand on the Flex League that was introduced a few years ago. This is an excellent opportunity for shift workers, work colleagues or busy moms and dads to join a team and not have to make a commitment of playing every week. A rotation bases could be arranged through the team members where as long as there are four players present to play each week. It is also advertised as a non-competitive league where the goal is to introduce this great sport to brand new members. Emma Joyce is convening this league again this year and if you have any questions regarding the "Flex League" please contact the LCC office or Emma herself.

On Wednesday, October 26th we will be our first ladies bonspiel of the year. We would like to thank Jeanette Finney and Ethel Windrem of Ethel & Jeanette's Hairstyling for sponsoring again this event. There will be a sign up sheet at Registration night. For more information contact Bev McMillan (705-324-4710) or Pat Boyd (705-324-9422) who will also be present on registration night.

As has been mentioned in previous newsletters, the Lindsay Curling Club is hosting the 2016-17 Senior Men and Women's Provincial from February 15th - 19th. We have already had several meetings preparing for this event. Of course, we will need many volunteers to assist in running this event over the five days. We will be needing help in the kitchen, timers for the games, drivers for the teams, volunteers for the opening ceremonies etc. There will be sign up sheets posted at registration and if you are available to lend a hand please sign up as we will need lots of help to make this event a success and also raise money for our club.

Youth Curling:

Last year the club had 33 young curlers come out on Sunday afternoons to learn about the game of curling. They practiced the various skills required to participate in a winter sport we all play in. It is important to maintain and hopefully increase our number of young curlers as they are the future of our sport. This year, we have a new youth coordinator. Diana Rogers will be taking over from Marteen Jones. Diana ran the youth program in Port Perry before she and Bruce moved to Lindsay. She has a lot of experience running a program of this nature and is excited to carry on here at our club. However, she cannot take this on without assistance from our membership. She will be looking for volunteers to help her out with the program. Youth curling traditionally begins the first Sunday in November and she will be looking for some help to get the program started. If you are interested in assisting Diana or would be willing to volunteer for a few sessions throughout the year, I'm sure she would welcome the help. If interested please contact the club or Diana herself (705-328-0240).

Curling Equipment:

Jim Allen, a member of our club, will be again offering Goldline Equipment to the members. He will have some equipment available at the club during Practice Week (October 11th - 14th) for members to purchase. He will provide this service to our members throughout the year. Jim will be more than happy to take orders if he does not have the equipment you want from Goldline here that week. There will be brochures available for you to look through as well. For more information contact Jim Allen at 705-878-5994.

Lindsay Fair Gates:

Cathy Terry would like to thank everyone who has volunteered to help at the Fair gates so far. She is looking for more helpers to fill the 190 time slots so if you are available for a few hours during fair week (Sept. 23rd - 27th) please speak with Cathy as she will also be present at registration or call give her a call (705-878-4034). This is an important fund raiser for the club. We will receive $8500.00 for our efforts which will get us off to a great start for this years' fundraising goals. Cathy would also like to remind all of the volunteers that if, for any reason, you are unable to work your shift please find a replacement and let her know who will be taking your place as she has a very limited spare list.
Also, the Fair Board would like as many of our people as possible to attend the training session on Monday, Sept. 19th @ 6:30 pm. as we will be using debit machines at the wickets and they want us to be familiar with the operation of the new machine. Please attend if at all possible.

Advertising At The Club:

Another source of revenue at the club is advertising. We have many business signs on our walls, and ice banners in the actual ice surface. We also have business cards ads in our roster that each member of the club has access to. We depend on this source of revenue, along with other club functions, to help pay for the many expenses we have throughout the year. If you are a business owner or if you happen to know someone who may be interested in advertising at the club please contact the LCC office (705-324-3851) for more details on how to become an advertiser with the Lindsay Curling Club.
